How to maintain your plancha griddle, first use and after!

What do you do when using it for the first time?

Before you prepare your first meal on your new BBQ, we recommend letting it heat up slowly. Allow about an hour for the first time, building the fire slowly and gradually increasing it.

After the BBQ has heated up gently, wipe the baking sheet with paper towels and oil it, letting it season. Then, use your spatulas to scrape off any excess oil.

Do this a few times so that the baking tray is nicely baked in and then it is ready for use.

What if your baking tray gets dirty after a while?

If your baking sheet gets really dirty after a while, you can sprinkle it with sparkling water while it's warm. This will help loosen the blackened residue. Then, scrape off the residue with the spatulas. Repeat this several times until the baking sheet is clean again.

After this, apply another layer of oil so that the baking tray is oiled again and cannot rust.

What if your baking tray is rusted?

  • Then sand off the rust with sandpaper and a little water.
  • If it is really hard rust, you can always sand off the rust with an iron sponge or, even more extreme, a cup brush attached to a drill.
  • After these steps, you should always oil your baking tray again so that the tray is greasy and cannot rust again.

What can you do to prevent rust formation?

To prevent rust, we recommend always reapplying a coat of oil after baking and using a lid. Even if you haven't used it for a long time, check it every two or three months and reapply oil if necessary.

To easily apply a layer of oil when the baking tray is cold, they sell oil in aerosol cans. You can find this in almost all supermarkets.
